Project Steelanol Arcelor Mittal Belgium

MIND was chosen by one of our Portuguese customers after the approval from Arcelor Mittal as the supplier of three molecular sieve vessels for this innovative project.

This project, Steelanol, located in Ghent, recycles carbon into sustainable, advanced bio-ethanol, transforming carbon-rich industrial waste gases into advanced bio-ethanol for use in the transport sector thanks to a new gas-fermentation technology. This technology therefore provides the unique opportunity to recycle the carbon from industrial exhaust gases that would otherwise be emitted into the atmosphere.

MIND supplied three molecular sieve vessels with dimensions ø2164x7600mm in stainless steel 304 (1.4301) following European design code EN-13445:2021 and PED 2014/68/EU that each one will contain 30.000 L of a mixture of Ethanol and water.

Design tasks have been monitorized by Worley and the Notified Body LRQA as nozzle loads calculations, welding procedures for stainless and carbon steel parts (bottom skirts) or Finite Elements Analysis of some nozzle loads in particular to comply with the required fatigue cycles these vessels will bear.

Manufacturing works were also supervised to achieve requirements as internal ground flushing and polishing of all welds, correct placement of internal grids and spargers provided by the manufacturer Trislotor the hydrulic pressure tests fulfilled.
